International Relations Online offers a Master of International Relations degree that requires 36–39 credit hours to complete and prepares students with essential knowledge and skills for understanding international relations.
Foundation Courses
Quantitative Methods: Research Design & Statistical Analysis
* Students who have previously completed approved introductory macroeconomics and microeconomics course work will be eligible to forego 3 credit hours of economics.
Concentrations, Electives, and Skills Institutes
Students must complete 9 concentration credits and 6 credits that are selected from electives and/or skills institutes.
Skills Institutes
Skills institutes are 1-credit courses offered in a face-to-face online format or as part of the required in-person immersion held on American University’s campus. These course offerings are updated often to reflect current topics in the field, and they are subject to change each term. Skills institutes enable students to customize their curriculum and stay current in the field.
